Abstract
The objectives of the study are to know the type of speech functions used and to determine the dominant speech functions used in Prabowo Subianto’s Speech in Indonesia Economic Forum 2018. The research methodology of this research was a qualitative study. The technique of collecting data documentation process was picking on the basis of the form of data obtained (scanning, reading, reviewing), Tran-scripting, deriving, and analyzing speech functions, concluding the research finding. The researcher finds 120 data. From those utterances that consisting speech functions, the researcher found all speech functions as Holmes’s theory of speech functions. The data of analysis speech functions in Prabowo Subianto’s Speech are 20 Expressive, 12 Directives, 32 Referential, 25 Metalinguistics, 19 Poetics, and 12 Phatic. The dominant type of speech function used in Prabowo Subianto’s speech is Referential. It is because This is the clearest function of language when it is used to indicate things or facts. This is context oriented and it is because referential speech functions is a speech function provide information as well.
