Abstract

In daily communication, language is a media used by people to communicate to others. In a conversation, speaker has different meant conveyed to the addressee namely speech acts. The speech acts itself has three types, one of them is illocutionary acts. This study is aimed to describe the types of illocutionary act from speech Emmanuel Macron in the United States Congress. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study. The data of this study were the words which contain illocutionary acts while the source the data in this study was Emmanuel Macron’s speech in the United States Congress. This study used two instruments, the primary instument was the researcher herself while the secondary instrument was document in words and table data. The data were collected by searching and selecting the speech text or video, reading and watching the video, finding all the utterances containing illocutionary acts, marking the utterances, giving marks to each data found and describe the data. The data analysis were conducted by reducting data, displaying data and the conclusion is drawn. The results of this study shows that there were five types of illocutionary acts found in the Emmanuel Macron’s spech they are assertive is counted in 28,57%, directive is counted in 30%, commisive is counted in 15,71% , expressive is counted in 14,28% and declarative is counted in 11,42%.
