Abstract

The purpose of this study in order to know the cause of women in Indonesia does the movements and manner or form of struggle in realizing it. The method used in this study using historical research began heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Indonesian women's movement in 1928-1978 to demand equal rights within the household and the marriage was investigated because of the oppression and discrimination of women in the household. Forms of oppression are not merely physical but also psychological oppression. Forms of oppression are polygamy, unilateral divorce, and domestic violence there is rampant today. That understanding of the arguments of religious and cultural constructs that exist as legalize the repressive measures. The results of this study is to explain the forms of the struggle of Indonesian women in claiming their rights by conducting social movement consisting of several stages. These stages are started Pre-movement (Premovement stage) with marked several letters demanding Kartini’s educating administration and teaching on women. The second stage is the stage of building awareness (awakening stage) This stage women build awareness of the position of women and women's roles are supposed to use the press or the newspapers and magazines in order to get up and get out of the tyranny of oppression. The next stage of building a movement (movement building stage) by forming several women's organizations in various regions across Indonesia. After it entered the stage (stage influence) or phase affects the target to hold a congress to influence government as a target to ensure women's rights in particular in the household and marriage. After all stages of new bypassed get results that can be seen from the emergence of a policy or called (outcome stage) with the passage of the Marriage Law No. 1 1974.
